Chanel Paris-Biarritz & Chanel Paris-Deauville

Chanel‘s Paris-Biarritz and Paris-Deauville are two eau de toilettes in its Les Eaux de Chanel collection. Both are unisex fragrances with a very brisk, classique, intensely fresh cologne style.

Bottom line for me personally: strong pass.

I should mention, by the way, that if the performance was poor on my father, it was absolutely terrible on a friend, the fragrance reviewer called The Perfume Dandy. (Alas, as with all things that I dislike, it lasted longer on me than I would like and as compared to them, though the fragrance was still short-lived by most measures.)

Dreary, banal experiences, the both of them, but to be completely fair, neither fragrance is really my genre of perfumery. If they’re yours and the review interests you, you should give them a sniff. Just don’t expect much in the way of performance unless you buy a bottle big enough to douse yourself every few two to three hours.

  1. Dear Kafkaesque

I am relatively new to the world of perfumes (i.e. niche perfumes). I don’t even know what the trigger was and what was the exact cause of the obsessive interest in perfumes, because my interest was mostly reduced to dosing perfumes (mostly Aqua di Gio and Egoiste) but somewhere in late 2019 it started and completely took me over for no obvious reason. After a lot of testing (probably about 400 testers in the meantime) I came to many conclusions, but the most important is that I love a certain style of perfume. In the first tests, one immediately differed from the others and that was the HdP-1740 Marquis de Sade, which I immediately bought without thinking. Then again a lot of money was spent on samples which from this angle are just synthetics under the umbrella of “niche”…all the way to Cuir Mauresque and it was also bought right away. And then finally Andy Tauer L’Air du Maroccain (I know you don’t like this one haha) which eventually became my favorite perfume. And then again a lot of testing and losing money.

To finally come across your blog looking for something about Hana Hiraku perfume. To my great surprise, I found a blog that is not only very well written, and where I’ve learned so much, but most of all, I liked the lists of the best perfumes, because I came to the conclusion how much I love the perfumes (mostly the animalic-oriental) from the list (exception Hard Leather which was hardly hard on me, and Ambre Loup which was rather basic on me) and also how much I bypassed some niche houses out of some of my prejudices (SHL 777) and some I’ve never heard before like Abdes Salaam Attars.I wish I had come across your blog earlier which would surely save me money by throwing money unnecessarily at certain niche houses. So this year I will definitely test SHL777, Teo Cabanel, Abdes Salaam Attars, NVC and Vero Profumo.

Your Top Lists have meanwhile made me buy a couple of perfumes blindly. As a big fan of patchouli and a big hater of roses, I blindly bought Sammarco Bond-T, Andy Tauer-Une Rose Chypree and LM Parfums-Army of Lovers. And I didn’t regret it. All the recommendations were absolutely good. Since the top lists always reveal something new to me, and I learn something from them. I wonder if there will be a top list of the best perfumes for 2021 even in en bref format. And I wonder if you maybe tested from Hiram Green-Hyde and your opinion about it.

    Best wishes

    • I’m so incredibly touched by your lovely, kind, generous words. Thank you!

I don’t think I’ll be found a Best Of compilation any time soon. I’m sorry.

It’s because I’m not focusing purely on new releases or things launched just in one year. I have a love for vintage perfumery that I indulge in once in a while, and I’m also catching up on a few things that I missed in past years when I was too burnt out from the blog to want to sniff new stuff. I’m also trying stuff that interests me based on note lists as opposed to things that just came out today or last week. So I doubt I’d have enough to cover in a review of 2021 or, say, 2022.

Anyway, thank you again for your very kind words and happy 2022!

    • it’s also a hair shampoo and when you use it as such the scent lasts forever in your hair.
